PTCC lining up to shake hands after the finalHow we got there: After retaining the Northants title, it was off to East Midlands Finals day again last Sunday (24 August - at the second attempt)...

Swanny's report: "Some brutal hitting by professional Paul McMahon saw Town to a 30-run semi-final victory over Derbyshire champions Ockbrook & Borrowash and then a remarkable six-wicket win over the star-studded West Indian Cavaliers side in the final, the huge favourites to add this crown to their National 45-over title from last year.

McMahon was brilliant in the semi-final finishing unbeaten on 85 from 37 balls, but was even better in the final against far superior bowlers, finishing on 95 not out, an innings that included six sixes and nine fours and occupied just 51 balls.

McMahon greeted by PTCC teammates. Photo: Tim OverTown had done well to restrict Cavaliers to 166, but slumped to 18-3 in reply, losing star batsman Asim Butt in controversial fashion to the second ball of the innings.

McMahon adopted a necessarily cautious approach at the start, but first skipper Lewis Bruce helped him add 49 for the fourth wicket and then 19 year-old Marcus Howard joined him to add a superb unbroken 103 for the fifth wicket.

The glory of hitting the winning runs fell to Howard who batted with great composure to finish on 25 not out."
