PTCC Selection Policy
The below outlines the objectives and aims of Peterborough Town Cricket Club’s (PTCC) selection policy and provides transparency in the selection criteria for each senior team.
It is a prerequisite that as a Members Club and with ECB Clubmark Accreditation (2022-2025) individuals:
- Pay their match fees and subscriptions on time
- Are consistently available for selection for the club
- Adhere to a club and team ethic, the Club’s Code of Conduct and Club Values
- Conduct themselves with the correct attitude and behaviour on and off the field
The overall objective of PTCC is to continue its position as one of the region’s leading clubs, play cricket at the highest standard possible for all teams, provide a platform for all cricketers and for promising junior players to develop and go on to play County age group cricket, ECB Premier League cricket, Minor County cricket and beyond.
PTCC runs 3 senior sides on a Saturday and 2 senior sides on a Sunday. Currently the Saturday 1st team play in the Northamptonshire Premier League, Saturday 2nds in Northants Division 1 and Saturday 3rds in Huntingdonshire Division 3.
Currently, the Sunday 1st team play in Rutland League Division 1 and Sunday 2nds play in Rutland League Division 4 East.
Each team has different short and long term aims and objectives:
1st XI:

- To continue being one of Northamptonshire’s leading clubs |
- To win the Northamptonshire T20 Cup |
- To become one of the leading clubs in the country through success on the field and the facilities we offer |
- As a minimum, to get to the quarter-final stage in an ECB National competition |
- Continue to provide a platform for players to move into Minor County and First-class cricket |
1st XI selection criteria:
The 1st XI will be selected with the purpose of winning the match with the strongest team available. The 1st XI is to take priority over other teams.
Factors taken into account in making selection decisions for the 1st XI include; ability (i.e. batting, bowling and fielding as the 3 key skills), form, attitude, team balance and opposition.
2nd XI:

- To produce players who are capable of performing in the 1st XI |
- To promote a culture whereby younger players aspire to and know what is required to progress into the 1st XI |
2nd XI selection criteria:
The team will be selected with the aim of consistently selecting a team capable of winning matches in Division 1 as well as producing a pipeline of players who can go on to play 1st team cricket.
Factors taken into account in making selection decisions for the 2nd XI include; ability (i.e. batting, bowling and fielding as the 3 key skills), form, attitude, team balance and opposition.
3rd XI:

- To provide competitive league cricket for junior players under the supervision of experienced senior players |
- To be a pathway for junior cricketers to play senior cricket |
- To have the correct balance of junior and experienced players |
3rd XI selection criteria:
The 3rd team is selected to maintain their place in Hunts Division 3 but ensuring there are opportunities for junior players to have major roles playing alongside the guidance of experienced players.
Factors taken into account in making selection decisions for the 3rd XI include; ability (i.e. batting, bowling and fielding as the 3 key skills), form, attitude, team balance and opposition.
Sunday Cricket
Sunday 1st XI:

- To provide competitive cricket and an environment that promotes the club culture with a mixture of Saturday 1st team players and younger promising players aspiring to play Saturday 1st team/2nd team cricket. |
- To prepare younger players for Premier League cricket. |
Sunday 1st XI selection criteria:
The Sunday 1st team will be picked to ensure a balance of senior and younger players. To give opportunities for players to develop skills in a competitive environment to prepare for Saturday 1st team/2nd team cricket. Priority will be given to members who play for PTCC on a Saturday.
Sunday 2nd XI:

- To provide competitive league cricket at a reasonable standard for mainly junior players under the supervision of senior players |
- To introduce junior cricketers into senior club weekend cricket |
Sunday 2nd XI selection criteria:
The Sunday 2nd team is selected with the future in mind, ensuring younger players gain experience of adult cricket as well as having senior players around for guidance and leadership. Priority will be given to members who play for PTCC on a Saturday.
The Selection Committee comprises each senior team's captains and vice-captains.
In order to help the Captains/Selection Committee with their decisions, all players are asked to give as much notice as possible of any non-availability during the course of the season.
