PTCC's Joe Dawborn all set for ICC Preparation Camp trip
Posted by Richard Kendall on 27 January 2017
Leading Peterborough Town fast bowler Joe Dawborn is all set for spending a month at the ICC's Elite Preparation Camp in Dubai.
Joe, 23, was leading wicket taker in the Northants League Premier Division for the last two seasons, as well as appearances in second team cricket for Northants, Leicestershire and Middlesex in recent seasons.
And, after generous contributions, Joe is preparing for the pre-season trip to Dubai to attend the ICC Academy, his itinerary will include:
Joe will spend four weeks as a resident at Dubai Sports City from 4th March with full access to all facilities at the ICC Academy during this time, including a cricket-specific gym, state-of-the-art video analysis, Olympic swimming pool, two ODI standard cricket ovals, and the 40 lane outdoor grass net facility (see attached document for some further information on the facilities).
He will be given personally tailored strength & conditioning and nutrition plans, which will be monitored by former New Zealand and Kent S&C Coach Pete Kelly. The fitness aspect will be intensive and designed with the goal of putting Joe into the best possible shape for the season ahead.
Former England and Warwickshire seamer Dougie Brown will be the lead bowling coach in the period that Joe is here. He has recently been appointed as Head Coach of the UAE squad, who Joe will be training alongside (as well as the Ireland squad) at the ICC Academy for the first half of March.
Former England bowler Darren Gough is also expected to be providing some bowling coaching on a number of days.
During the second week of his trip, Joe will be training alongside English county players involved in the new North vs South pre-season games - plenty of bowling opportunities against players being considered for international cricket by the England selectors!
During the final fortnight of his trip, Joe will be in and amongst six county squads who are using the ICC Academy as their base for pre-season training (Essex, Lancashire, Durham, Yorkshire, Middlesex and Warwickshire). As well as net practice, there are likely to be opportunities to join in with internal squad practice games and catch the eye of the various county coaches who will be out here.
- All at PTCC wish Joe well and looking forward to hearing his updates!
